Susan's Story

In 1982, my mom went to Pat Parelli's first seminar that he taught in
Sunland, CA.  I was only 3 years old at the time but as time would tell
Parelli Natural Horsemanship was destined to become part of my life.

Before my Parelli journey, I have 12 years of traditional training
behind me in many various disciplines and with variety of breeds.  The
disciplines I competed in include dressage, hunters equitation and pleasure, western equitation and pleasure, trail, driving, and some gymkhana.  The breeds that I competed with included, Quarter Horses, Morgans and Mules.  A few of my accomplishments during this 12 year period are the 1997 Equestrian Trails, Inc. National Queen,  1997 Morgan Regional Medals in Dressage and Hunter over Fences, and 1995, 1996, & 1997 World Champion Overall Youth 14-17 at Bishop Mule Days.

In 1995, my Morgan gelding Dusty had a 8 month lay up due to an
injury to his leg. At that time, I decided to go and watch a Parelli
Natural Horsemanship Level 1 Clinic.  This changed my life forever, as
it was this clinic that launched my interest and curiosity into other
ways of training and being with horses.

I jumped into studying the Parelli Natural Horsemanship method
with utter abandon.  I absolutely felt that this was the way that I wanted to
be with my horses. There is something amazing about a training
method that allows your horses to have opinions and to really express
themselves.   The idea that it is about a real relationship with your
horse, having four different disciplines (savvys) and working toward your horse being as happy with the work as you are is just amazing!

Every day I interact with my horses, I just love how interactive they are with me, how much they want to interact and how each one is such an individual.  The Parelli program has really taught me how to accept each horse for their specific horsenality and find the positive in each one.

My life as a Parelli Professional is very rewarding when I see horses
finding a better relationship with their humans and humans a better
relationship with their horses.  I find an incredible amount of joy when
I can help horses and help people become better for each other.
